Review: ‘Get Out’

It’s Oscars season and we’re reviewing the Academy’s big category picks. ‘Get Out’ (starring Daniel Kaluuya and Allison Williams) is directed by Jordan Peele and has nominations for Best Picture, Best Actor (Kaluuya), Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay.

Synopsis:

“Now that Chris and his girlfriend, Rose, have reached the meet-the-parents milestone of dating, she invites him for a weekend getaway upstate with Missy and Dean. At first, Chris reads the family’s overly accommodating behavior as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter’s interracial relationship, but as the weekend progresses, a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth that he never could have imagined.”

We put the movie through our critically acclaimed rating system, which grades based on four categories:
  1. Did we like it?
  2. How did everyone look?
  3. Will we steal stuff from it?
  4. Is it problematic?

Here’s how it played out:
